The Louisiana National Guard Youth Challenge Program is a 17-month program, which offers at-risk

adolescents an opportunity to change their future. The initial program consists of a 5-month

residential phase where cadets learn self-discipline, leadership, and responsibility while working to

obtain a high school general equivalency diploma (GED). Participants live and work in a structured

and disciplined military like environment, which encourages teamwork and personal growth. The

second phase of the program is a 12-month post-residential phase. During the post-residential

phase, students are assisted by mentors from their home communities and YCP case managers as

they return home and continue their education or enter the work force.
